Our Mission Statement
Willingham Primary School aims to provide quality teaching
and learning for all its pupils, delivering a curriculum for the development
of the whole child and one that is fitting for the 21st century, in a safe,
secure, happy, caring and stimulating environment. |
Ethos Statement
Willingham Primary School serves its community by
providing an education of the highest quality within the context and
understanding of shared values e.g. care, consideration and
co-operation, honesty, respect and openness. The school encourages an
understanding of the meaning and significance of these values through
the experience it offers its pupils. |
Aims of the SchoolWillingham Primary School aims to:-
 | Ensure the ‘Every Child Matters’ agenda is
realised |
 | Create an interesting and stimulating environment
which reflects our values and promotes a sense of community as well
as an individual sense of self worth |
 | Develop a community of life-long learners where
access to knowledge is a right and a recognised achievement |
 | Provide learning experiences that will allow all
pupils equal opportunities to develop their thinking and creative
skills |
 | Promote social, cultural, moral and spiritual
development, preparing pupils to be responsible citizens |
 | Encourage the partnership with parents/carers and
foster positive links with the community |
We believe the most effective way of achieving these
aims is through the promotion of: inquiry and curiosity, enthusiasm and
challenge, sharing and learning together, the acceptance and embracing
of differences, openness, self respect and persistence.
Our school aims to be inclusive. We want all of our
children to feel welcomed, happy and fulfilled. We recognise that all
children are different and that these differences create opportunities
for adults and children alike to learn more about ourselves and each
other. Helping children to developing good attitudes and values is an
important feature of our work.

The Area Served by the School The school serves the large village of Willingham which, whilst still rural, has become a feeder to Cambridge in terms of employment. The village contains a variety of different types of housing, giving the school a varied catchment area. We are lucky enough to have two pre-school facilities in Willingham which feed our foundation stage classes:
|
School HistoryThe first school in Willingham was founded in 1593 and was funded by public subscription. In the 19th Century schooling flourished in the village; the 'Blinkhorn' private school opened in the 1850s, a day and boarding school opened in Newington House (which no longer stands) and the original predecessor of the present school opened in 1856. It was called The British and Foreign Bible Societies School, later shortened to The British School, and was a board school. Girls were first educated in a gallery in the school, but not until the 1880s. A separate girls' school was built in 1883 and this became the infants' school when the boys' and girls' schools amalgamated. The present school was built in 1975 and the 1856 building was sold. The old school continues to support the new one as funds from its sale were invested and the Willingham British School's Trust is able to release grants for educational purposes, both to the school and throughout the village generally. Willingham Primary School is an LEA controlled school. |
Accommodation The school buildings are modern and spacious and on a single level. We have two halls, a
library, ICT suite,
twelve teaching bases, one group room, special needs room,
community/resource room, offices, staffroom and a canteen. Classroom have
access to sink units and access to cloakrooms and the playground. The
central courtyard is used for quiet work and play.
Two Infant classrooms have been extended and an extra junior
classroom has been created as part of our overall strategic plan for the
school.
Outside, there is a large grassed field and hard surface
areas with adventure play equipment and sports pitches. A ‘wild garden’
provides an additional facility for learning out of doors. There is a
learner swimming pool and a fenced early-years playground. More recently a
canopy for all-weather play has been erected for the Foundation Stage
children.
The Learning Landscape Project continues to develop and
recent additions include a pavilion, playground paintings and a story
tellers corner.
Our caretaker lives on site.
We have recently installed CCTV cameras. The Governors are keen to
protect investments made to the school’s learning resources.
