Year 5/6: L. S. Lowry, part 1

In the first few weeks of this half-term, the Year 5/6s will be creating their own pictures inspired by the art of L. S. Lowry.

We began by studying the painting V. E. Day and comparing it with other paintings by Lowry. We looked at his industrial cityscapes and also at his less well-known portraits and seascapes.

The children then planned their own work in their sketchbooks:

We talked about the balance between foreground and background, and practised layering buildings to produce an illusion of depth.
