Up to May Half Term

Borras Construction are currently completing the brickwork up to Finished Floor Level (DPC level). The floor reinforcement has now been installed, and we are currently awaiting the concrete delivery for the floor slab.

The concrete will be left to cure over the bank holiday weekend, and works will resume on Tuesday with the continuation of the brickwork and blockwork. Scaffold installation is planned for the next couple of weeks.

During the school holidays, we are also planning to install ducting near the main hall to allow the new building to be connected to the existing building for electricity and data services. This work will involve the temporary removal and reinstatement of some paving slabs.

Building Our Curiosity

Our Reception Classes have loved watching the building work so far this term. They have been inspired to build their own buildings and do some fantastic pieces of writing!

Foundations Completed

We are now at the end of week 5 and all the foundations are completed for the external walls, with all diversion of the foul and surface water completed and new runs installed. Deliveries are booked for brick, blocks, sand and cement on Monday and Tuesday next week and the bricklayers will start on Wednesday.

Construction has Started

There has also been plenty of excitement around school as work on the WPS Hub has begun and parts of the school site have become a building area. We are incredibly proud of how well the children have adapted to the temporary changes, including new arrangements for lining up at playtimes and lunchtimes. Their flexibility and positive attitudes have been a real credit to them. It has been wonderful to see the children’s curiosity about the work taking place, especially the diggers! Fortunately, the building work has not caused too much disruption in terms of noise or daily routines.

Thank you, too, for your cooperation in using the new pathway through the playground. We really appreciate your support with this.

New Wrap Around Care Building Confirmed

The plans for the start of the construction of the new Wrap Around Hub are confirmed and I shared the news with the children in assembly on Monday. Please see the attached newsletter from Borras Construction for more information about the project and the company. They are committed to providing social value through this project and will be working with us to give children opportunities to learn about the different aspects of construction throughout this 36 week project.
