Willingham Primary School

Physical Education

At Willingham Primary School, our Physical Education curriculum is designed to inspire all children to develop a love of physical activity and sport. We aim to provide pupils with the knowledge and skills to participate competitively with confidence, competence and resilience across a range of sports. We strive to educate both children and families to develop a greater understanding of how to live healthy lifestyles and make healthy choices at secondary school and beyond.

We follow the GetSet4 PE scheme, which provides a clear and progressive curriculum from EYFS to Year 6. In EYFS and KS1, pupils develop fundamental movement skills, which are built upon in KS2 through topics such as Invasion Games, Gymnastics, Dance, Athletics, Outdoor and Adventurous Activities, and Swimming. The curriculum is carefully sequenced to develop knowledge, skills and fitness over time, enabling pupils to build coordination, teamwork and tactical understanding.

Children have PE twice a week, providing regular opportunities to practise, refine and apply their skills. We ensure all children are fully included in PE through appropriate support and challenge. We are fortunate to have our own onsite Swimming pool, which enables all children to take part in Swimming lessons during the summer term. In addition, children have access to our Daily Mile running track during break and lunch times, promoting regular physical activity and supporting both physical and mental wellbeing throughout the school day.

KS2 Pupils are given opportunities to represent the school in a range of Sports Competitions and Festivals throughout the year. These experiences allow the children to compete in positive sporting events while developing their resilience, sportsmanship and teamwork.
